Consultation Documents - Joint Church School at Our Lady of Lourdes
When the Authority carried out its 2007 review of primary school provision in the Leasowe area, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shrewsbury and the Anglican Diocese of Chester raised the possibility of establishing a Joint Church Primary School using the current premises of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School.
The thinking behind this was to demonstrate the two Churches working together, to ensure that Leasowe parents still had the option of choosing denominational or community school education and to meet the needs, as yet unfilled, for a Church of England Primary School in North Wallasey.
Much of the discussions and meetings since then between the two Dioceses have concentrated on how Religious Education and Collective Worship plus links with parishes would be organised in the proposed new school. After much work on these the stage has been reached where formal consultations are underway on proposals for a new school and comments invited from all interested parties.
The school will be a Voluntary Aided Primary School of a religious character in joint trusteeship of the RC Diocese of Shrewsbury and the Church of England Diocese of Chester, aided by Wirral Local Authority.
It will remain a one form entry primary school with a maximum of 30 places per year group and 210 pupils in total. In addition there would be 26 places in a maintained nursery on-site within the primary school.
