CAREER BREAKS
Wirral schools support a career break scheme for teachers in the same way Wirral Authority supports career breaks for non-teaching staff. This family friendly policy is designed to enable teachers to leave their current employment, normally for domestic reasons, but maintain their knowledge and professional skills in order to return to teaching in the future.
Teachers may take a break from their career to have a child or care for children or dependants in need of care up to a maximum of five years.
During that period the teacher commits to a specified amount of attendance at development sessions and to undertake a specified number of supply days.
On notification of their intended return date the LEA will use its best endeavours to locate a teaching post subject to there being a suitable vacancy.
Career breaks can be a valuable opportunity to combine family life with your career. Maintaining links with the Profession makes a return to teaching after a number of years 'out' less daunting and gives greater confidence for that first day back!
