GRADUATE TEACHER PROGRAMME
The Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) enables graduates to undertake an employment based route to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The trainee will follow an individual training programme based in a school, which will enable them to meet the QTS standard when the training is complete. This programme is suitable for well-qualified people who need to earn a living while they train and have relevant experience. Trainees must possess a UK degree, and have obtained G C S E grade C or equivalent in English and Mathematics, and Science if the trainee was born after 1st September 1979.
The training programme will usually last for one year and the trainee is required to find a school who is willing to employ them as an unqualified teacher for this period of time. Schools may advertise in local or national newspapers, or the trainee may have to approach the school directly to ask if they would be prepared to support you in the programme.
Wirral LEA is a member of the Merseyside and Cheshire GTP Consortium who are a Designated Recommending Body. They are allocated a number of GTP placements per year by the Teacher Training Agency and are responsible for the selection and support/provision for GTP candidates.
We presently have fully funded vacancies for Secondary Shortage subjects and Training Grant only vacancies for Teaching Assistants. Any application submitted for areas where we do not have vacancies will be held over for the Autumn 2007 recruitment period.
