PROFESSIONAL BURSARIES
Professional Bursaries for Teachers in their 4th & 5th Years of Teaching
The Professional Bursaries Scheme is designed to build on the development opportunities during a teacher's induction and subsequent years of teaching. Teachers in their 4th and 5th years can use the bursaries to help achieve performance management objectives, work towards the Threshold and enhance professional development generally.
A Professional Bursary is an award of £500 which can be claimed to support professional development.
Eligibility Criteria:
i) Must be a qualified teacher, AST assistant Headteacher or deputy Headteacher
And
ii) Have successfully completed the induction period on a date before the financial year beginning on 1st April in which you are claiming a bursary
And
iii) Have not less than 3 years, and no more than 5 years, service on 1st September, before the financial year beginning on 1st April, in which you are claiming a bursary. Absence on maternity and paternity leave will count towards eligible service
And
iv) are employed full-time or part-time in a school, which could be a maintained primary, secondary or special school: non-maintained primary or secondary special school: City Technology College: City College for the Technology of Arts: or a City Academy in England on 1st April in each financial year of the scheme.
Unattached and supply teachers can apply provided they meet the first three conditions. A Professional Bursary can be claimed in both the 4th and 5th Year of teaching.
