1986 Art in Industry

Play Narration Stop Narration Industry was the inspiration for schools and artists. Three artists, Christine Leadbetter, painter, James Giddens, printmaker and Christine Kowal Post, sculptor, worked as artists in residence in Lever Brothers at Port Sunlight; PPF International, Unichema and Van den Berghs and Jurgens at Bromborough.

Five hundred children were involved in the project producing paintings, gigantic sculptures of nuts and bolts, strange carvings from soap, and an artefact which had to be plugged in to become fully operational with flashing lights and revolving catherine wheels.

It was up to the school children to choose their own subjects and for many it was an exciting insight into an industrial world which they recorded with on the spot sketches and notes to develop back at school.
