1992/93 Sculpture and the Environment

Play Narration Stop NarrationJacqueline Veohaagen was the Artist-in-Residence for a project and exhibition entitled VERTIGO. Jacquelines work exploited a specific location and used its characteristics in her work. Students (from 8-18) were encouraged to look at the local environment as a potential site for placing sculpture. Visits were made to Birkenhead Park, Wallasey docks and Birkenhead shopping centre and these areas considered as sites for large-scale public displays:

How does a sculpture change a place?

How does dramatically changing the size of an object change the way you look at it?

Visualisations in paint and collage were done to help answer these questions.

Foundation course students put strong emphasis on designing work closely to the related site.
