An exhibition Art Moves at the Williamson was the culmination of a series of workshops led by Jackdaw Media Educational Trust. Over 200 young people from 15 Wirral schools took part in the creation of several thousand colourful images to produce artwork and animation inspired by the Williamson Art Gallerys permanent collection, in particular the maritime collection, Della Robbia pottery and the Victorian furniture.
Much of the artwork was created for the Zoetrope. The Zoetrope drum is a Victorian parlour toy (patented in 1897) which combines creativity and demonstration of persistence of vision theory to create the illusion of movement. A series of 12 images, each subtly different from its neighbour, is formed into a circle and spun inside a drum to bring it to life.
Animations will be avilable to view here soon!
Jackdaw Media explores new environments and platforms for the production and exhibition of animation. The animators who conducted the workshop were Gillian Ely, Fiona Sanderson, Laura Knight, Emma Cooke, James Smith and Simon Partington.
Their work has been screened at national events and internationally at film and television festivals.
Yvonne Eckersley, a founder member of Jackdaw commented:
"I felt it would be wonderfully liberating to make a light-hearted study of nymphs, cherubs and fruit at the Williamson with innovative young pupils/students of Wirral."
