Ken Grant, a documentary photographer, worked with Somerville Primary School & Mosslands School to photograph the local environment , the park & the dockland, looking at industrial dereliction.
What is a photograph? The question seems simple but has been debated ever since 1839, when Louis Daguerre first exhibited his photographs in Paris. It can be said that photography captures realistic images, but it is like painting considered an art form and the photographer may recreate the world according to his or her own artistic interpretations.
Through manipulation in the dark room images can be processed to produce photographs that demonstrate a more imaginative response to the subject.
Projects in Inside/Outside enabled the pupils & students, through the camera lens, to become familiar with their local environment, both natural & manmade architecture. Computer manipulation of the images allows further development of the project.
Pupils were they themselves filmed as they took photographs of their schools surroundings.
