Flaybrick Memorial Gardens

Picture of Flaybrick Title

Flaybrick is a massive local history repository - the new website www.flaybrick.com designed by Gavin Rymill of West Kirby, enables you to enter this past world.

The site contains in depth biographies of Flaybrick incumbents and this figure will increase as our research progresses. The 2 subjects we have now are Isaac Roberts the pioneer celestial photographer and Arthur Doodson the world tidal authority, who predicted the tides for the D-day invasion.

The cost of the website have been met by Telescope Technologies of 12 Quays, Birkenhead. We gained their support by telling them about the Roberts memorial.

We are one of the first to form a partnership with the Wirral Education Authorities Learning Grid. This enables Wirral's school children to log onto our website and learn about 2 local scientists. Particularly appropriate during national science week - an additional plus from the education point is that our site is advert free. We are hopeful that all this will increase the number of school field trips to Flaybrick. Also that any member of the public logging on will make a visit to Flaybrick. Getting Flaybrick back into the community is a key objective for us, but this won't happen until people from Birkenhead start to use Flaybrick as a public garden.

Anyone visiting will see a lot of improvements on the ground. The sextons lodge is now almost fully restored, thanks totally due to the efforts of Mick and Carol Marsland who intend to make it their home.

This week the Laird Foundation youth workers are installing new railing sections. We brought them on board but Wirral Borough Council meets their costs. Sexton Graham Callister and his workers have made dramatic cutbacks to the vegetative cover and Nick Harding has taken up the post as ranger.
