Reception Shape
"Build a House"

What will this game will achieve?
This will help your child to recognise and name shapes.  It is also intended to encourage them to look for shapes around them.

You will need:

                                                       
How do you play?

• Talk about the shapes your child can see in the house picture: square, circle, semi-circle, rectangle, triangle
  
• Take turns to roll the die and collect bits of the house according to the shape shown on the die
• The winner is the first person to 'build' the house
  

Questions to ask:

What is that shape called?
How many sides does it have?
How many corners does it have?
How many pieces have you collected?
How many more do you need?

Extension:

Have a look at the front of your own house.
Try and find as many shapes as you can
Make a list of the shapes you found
