"Lily Pads"

What will this game will achieve?
This activity will help your child to know what each digit in a two-digit number means,  e.g. 23 is 2 tens and 3 ones/units.

You will need:

                   

                                  
How do you play?

  • The first player throws two dice and decides which numbers it can be    e.g. if 2 and 3 thrown, can be 23 or 32
  • The player looks for either number on their half of the lilypad.  If they have the number, cover it with a frog counter.
  • Play continues until one player has covered all the numbers on their half of the lilypad.

Questions to ask:

What is the highest number on your side of the lilypad?
What is the lowest number?
Have you any numbers higher than 20?
Have you any numbers less than 50?
Can you see any numbers where you will have to throw a double (ie 66, 33)?
You have rolled a 3 and a 4. Are you going to make it 4 tens and 3 units (43) or 3 tens and 4 units (34)?
Which number is greater 54 or 45? Why?
