Key Stage 1 Numeracy Homework
Year 1 Clock Work
"Zoo Animals"

What will this game will achieve?

This will help your child to recognise the layout of a clock face, and add numbers to 12.

You will need:

How do you play?

Activity 1 - Feeding Times
  • Put the picture discs around the outside of the clock so that they are next to the matching animal picture on the clock face.
  • Take an animal box each.
  • Take it in turns to roll the dice, the highest score goes first.
  • Roll both dice and add up the total, point the red hand of the clock to the matching time, and state the time.
  • If the time is accurately told the player can take the matching picture disc and post it into the animal box.  This is the animal's feeding time.
  • When all of the animals have been 'fed', each player should empty their animal box and count the animals.
  • The winner is the person who has fed the most animals.

Activity 2 - Bed time
The animals have to go to bed in the two zoo houses, 6 in each one.  They can't decide which one to go in.  Can you help?
  • Pick a zoo house.
  • Place the animals around the outer edge of the clock matching the pictures.
  • The black hand on the clock must always face up - that is, it must always be on o'clock.
  • Roll the dice and move the red hand to that number then take the relevant animal and put it in your zoo house.
  • When you have put 6 animals to bed in your zoo house, put the remaining 6 in the other house - Well done, you've helped the animals!

Questions to ask:
Which animal gets fed at 4 o'clock?
Which animal gets fed after the monkey?
Which animal gets fed before the tiger?
