Swim 21

Wirral Metro gained Swim 21 accreditations at Skill Development and Competitive Development in July 2008 .

Swim 21 is a planning tool, based on the principles of Long Term Athlete Development, enabling clubs to help athletes, teachers, coaches and administrators to achieve their full potential. It focuses particularly on the needs of athletes - striving to provide them with the best possible support and environment.

LTAD is concerned with achieving the correct basic teaching, training and competition throughout a young athlete’s progression particularly in relation to the important growth and development phases. It provides a framework for planning the club’s training and competition programmes.

The ASA LTAD model consists of 5 main phases as shown below:

By marrying up and utilising these models, the club focuses on the needs of individual swimmers in all aspects of their development.
