Mark and Active Mark Gold
Rewarding quality
in physical activity
The Activemark and
the Activemark Gold awards scheme offers your school the chance to achieve
recognition for its commitment to promoting the benefits of physical
activity. The awards are open to primary schools, middle schools deemed
primary schools and special schools with primary aged pupils.
To achieve an
award, your school must:
- Offer a broad
and balanced physical education programme
- Provide an environment
that encourages physical activities
- Teach children
the importance of staying active for life.
The benefits
Achieving an Activemark
or an Activemark Gold award benefits your school in numerous important
ways
- Supports the
development of your PE curriculum and physical activity programmes.

strengths and weaknesses

school to the wider community

of physical activity
Who can apply?
Activemark recognises
schools with:
- Effective policies
and practices for providing a broad, balanced physical education programme
- Realistic physical
education and physical activity development plans
- Enhanced curricular
provision through some additional opportunities for physical activity
- An effective
inclusion policy for disabled pupils
Activemark Gold
recognises schools with:
- All the above
policies and practices in place, plus
- Realistic, in-depth
physical education and physical activity development plans
- A commitment
to providing a range of additional, high quality opportunities for
physical activity.
In each of the ten
Sport England regions there will be Sport England Active Schools officers
working with local education authorities and sports development officers
to ensure there is adequate support.

TOP Tots
Helping children
aged 18 months to 3 years to experience physical activities and games.
TOP Tots is the first stage of our sporting pathway. It provides parents,childminders
and nursery staff with a simple resource to introduce physical activity
to young children
TOP Start
Encouraging 3 to
5 year olds to learn through physical activity. TOP Start has been designed
for use with groups of young children in pre-school settings such as
nurseries, play groups and creches.
TOP Play
Supporting 4 to
9 year olds as they acquire and develop core skills. TOP Play combines
childrens energy and enthusiasm for fun and activity with the
opportunity to develop important sporting skills such as running, jumping
and catching.
BT TOP Sport
Providing 7 to 11
year olds with opportunities to develop skills in a range of sports.
BT TOP Sport, sponsored by BT, supports teachers and community deliverers
as they introduce specific sports and games to young people. It is helping
to build a sounf foundation in the following sports:

Medisport Fit
for TOPS
Including
young disabled people
SportSability creating
opportunities young disabled people to enjoy, participte and perform
in PE and Sport. SportSability features specially developed resource
cards and equipment for five inclusive games: boccia, goalball, polybat,
table cricket and table hockey. These were developed in partnership
with the British Boccia Federation, British Blind Sport, Nottingham
Trent University and Davies the Sports people.
