FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – OVERSEAS TRAINED TEACHERS
I am a trained teacher from abroad. What are my options?
The Consortium has a limited number of places for Overseas Trained Teachers.
There is no closing date for this programme, so applications should be submitted as soon as they are complete.
Please ensure that you submit:
A completed current Application Form for the Graduate Teacher Programme
A completed Additional Application Form for Overseas Trained Teachers
A copy of all of your qualifications
A copy of your Naric statement that clearly shows: your English GCSE Grade C equivalent; your Mathematics GCSE Grade C equivalent; your degree status; your qualification to teach. You must ensure that copies of all appropriate certificates are included, and that you clearly demonstrate your eligibility for the programme
Please note – the most onerous part of this programme is ensuring that you meet all of the necessary qualifying criteria.
I have a lot of experience. Is there an assessment only route?
Not as such, but as the programme is flexible to individual needs, it can be viewed as such.
You still need to compile a portfolio to demonstrate your competence against the QTS standards, and you still need to take the Skills Tests.
I am trying to find employment, but as an overseas trained teacher I am fining it difficult without QTS. Can you help me to find a job?
One requirement of entry to the Overseas Trained Teacher programme is that you are employed as an Unqualified Teacher.
You must find your own employment. We cannot help.
If you are finding it difficult now, what difference do you think that QTS will make?
The alternative is to apply for the Graduate Teacher Programme.
What funding is available for the OTT?
None.
You are an experienced and qualified teacher, and will be employed as an Unqualified Teacher, so will not need any Salary grant funding.
As an experienced teacher, the amount of training that you will require in addition to the day-to-day challenges in school will be minimal.
The Consortium provides a Quality Assurance Tutor to advise you on the development of your portfolio, so no funding is available to the school.
